Our Story
"Eutin, Anfang der Swingin' Nineties. Eine Zeit des Aufbruchs. Die Mauer ist gefallen, im Radio hört man wieder Stromgitarren...."
Johnny Bob ist ein Künstlerduo bestehend aus den Brüdern Jörg Purfürst alias Doctor Jest und Carsten Díaz alias Hannes Moorhahn. Beide spielten als kreative Köpfe in den späten 80er und frühen 90er Jahren in Schülerbands im Raum Eutin/Ostholstein, die sich dem ProgRock a la Genesis, Yes oder Marillion verschrieben hatten.
Man war mit Herzblut dabei und träumte vom Ruhm. Die Bands "Dawn Acrobats" und "Rivendell" lösten sich auf, sobald die Mitglieder ihren Schulabschluss hatten.
20 Jahre später. Entstanden aus schnapsgeschwängerter Nostalgie sucht Jörg Songs der Jugend-Ära zusammen. Videobänder, Demo-Kassetten, Notenblätter dienen als Quelle. Zusammen mit Carsten bereitet er die “Klassiker” auf. Peter Piek (Gesang), Matthias Willer (Gitarre), Tom Steinbrecher (Gitarre), Arne Röstermundt (Keyboards) und Philip Mestwerdt (Schlagzeug) komplettieren das Projekt. Jörg recorded den Stoff.
Das Debütalbum "Carnival of the Brahma-Sox" wird 2017 auf "Kombüse Records", dem Label von Jens Pfeifer ("Hamburger Küchensessions"), veröffentlicht. Im April 2019 folgt das zweite Album "Fjodor and the Water Giant". Eine EP mit Instrumentalstücken ("Hunted by a Caproid") als auch das dritte Album “Egbert’s Barber Shop” sind in der Mache. Und da ist die Idee, Johnny Bob als Band tatsächlich auf die Bühne zu bringen...

Egbert`s Barber Shop
Johnny Bob is a Progressive Rock Band from Hamburg. The group’s style is based on genre idols such as Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), early King Crimson or Marillion.
The debut album "Carnival of the Brahma-Sox" was released in 2017 and ensured initial success. The second album "Fjodor and the Water Giant" followed in April 2019 and Johnny Bob were showered with praise from the ProgRock scene.
The 4-track EP "Hunted by a Caproid" saw its light of day in January 2020.
The brothers Jörg Purfürst (bass, keyboards, guitar) and Carsten Díaz (voice, guitar) form the core of the band. Since August 2019 Díaz replaces former singer Peter Piek.
Line-up is completed by Philip Mestwerdt (drums) and Jan Brust (guitar).
The lyrics of the songs are mostly bizarre stories which contain sociocritical metaphors, told / performed by Díaz who tends to roguery by tirelessly altering the history of the band in interviews and on stage, so that truth and fiction merge here.
In September 2020 the band releases their 3rd album „Egbert’s Barber Shop“ which contains eight tracks with a running time of 45 minutes.
